Lake Las Vegas: Resort offers sushi classes for kids

Loews Lake Las Vegas in Henderson, Nev., is teaching kids how to mix fun with the art of sushi in a series of classes dubbed SushiSKool on the first Saturday of each month. The next one is July 2.
Chef Osamu Fujita, a third-generation sushi chef, guides grade-schoolers through teens through the basics of ordering, using chopsticks and sushi etiquette. Participants sample items such as as gari (pickled ginger) and wasabi (Japanese horseradish) while making sushi and sipping ocha (green tea).
Everybody gets rice, fish and seaweed wrappers and a chance to play with colors and textures -- and best of all, they get to eat their creations.
The $20 class fee includes a gift bag with a SushiSKool apron, “Chef Fuji’s Guide to Sushi,” chopsticks and a VIP card that gives parents a 10% discount off dinner at the resort’s Marssa restaurant.
Parents can join in as well ($20 per adult , with each participating child). Or they can enroll in the Sushi & Sake School ($40), which offers adults the chance to taste a variety of sake and learn how to create an ace sushi roll.
