Las Vegas: Decor is steampunk, the dining eclectic at new eatery

Rx Boiler Room, a new restaurant with a steampunk vibe, is Chef Rick Moonen’s latest offering on the Las Vegas Strip.
Rx Boiler Room in the Shoppes at Mandalay Place, replaces the upstairs dining area at Moonen’s RM Seafood. That space formerly featured a pricier, more upscale menu.
Steampunk, a genre found in science-fiction books and movies, is reflected in the new restaurant’s décor: It’s reminiscent of the industrial revolution in Britain during the 19th century.
Rx Boiler Room features “the alchemy of food and drink,” its website says. The menu features some clever offerings.
Appetizers include chicken pot pie nuggets ($8) and braised oxtail croquettes Dijonnaise ($9). Among the varied entrees: a bucket of crispy-fried game hen ($16) and charred octopus kebab ($26).
The bar menu is equally creative. The smoked whiskey and cola, for instance, is a concoction of George Dickel Tennessee Whiskey blended with homemade cola syrup, vanilla bitters, soda water and smoked cherry wood chips.
The dining room is open 5 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. daily.
