Neil Sedaka to play two nights at the Orleans Hotel & Casino

Reporting from Las Vegas — Neil Sedaka will be just shy of his 76th birthday when he takes the stage Feb. 21 and 22 at the Orleans Hotel & Casino.

Baby-boomers will remember the singer-songwriter whose hits include “Laughter in the Rain,” “Breaking Up Is Hard to Do,” “Happy Birthday Sweet Sixteen” and “Oh Carol.”

Sedaka was just 18 when he wrote a hit song for Connie Francis called “Stupid Cupid” and his career took off. His longtime partnership with lyricist Howard Greenfield yielded songs like “Breaking Up Is Hard to Do,” “Love Will Keep Us Together” (a hit for the Captain & Tennille) and many others.

The two parted after the Beatles and the British Invasion arrived and rock music took off in another direction.

More recently, Sedaka recorded an album called “The Real Neil” in 2013. It includes new songs plus a few classics from his 60-plus years in the music business. Sedaka has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame too.

Last year, BBCFour aired a documentary about his life called “Neil Sedaka: King of Song.” And his birthday? It’s on March 13.
