KABUL, Afghanistan -- A suicide bomber detonated his explosives-packed rickshaw in a northern Afghanistan marketplace Tuesday, killing at least 15 people, including women and children, authorities said.
The bloody attack in Meymaneh, in which at least 27 others were wounded, came as residents were busy shopping on the eve of Nowruz, the Persian new year celebration.
The Afghan Interior Ministry said at least three police officers were among the injured in the morning blast. The ministry condemned the “coward” attack by terrorists in northern Faryab province.
No group immediately claimed responsibility. The region is one where Taliban militants and allied organizations are active.
