WASHINGTON — School districts in 25 states will share $5 million in federal grants to help begin breakfast programs, the Agriculture Department said Friday. California’s share will exceed $600,000.
Betty Jo Nelsen, administrator of the department’s Food and Nutrition Service, said the grants were awarded on the basis of need, the number of children who could be added to the program, and the feasibility and cost-effectiveness of the districts’ proposals.
