School Board’s New Computer System Will Take Place of 5 Data Processors

GLENDALE — The Glendale Board of Education voted unanimously Tuesday to buy a $1.5-million computer system that will replace five district data processors.
Four of the district’s 11 data processors will be laid off, school officials said. One person resigned recently, anticipating a layoff.
School board members are grappling with a $6.7-million budget deficit.
Assistant Supt. Stephen Hodgson said the upgraded system will save the district $35,000 over the next six years, the duration of financing purchase system. Known as IBM-Schools Administrative Student Information, the system has been praised by Supt. Robert Sanchis. The California School Employees Assn. opposes the system and the layoffs.
