Glenn Hisayasu, an official of Valley College in Van Nuys, has been named dean of student services at College of the Canyons in Santa Clarita.
Hisayasu, 44, was appointed to the $78,000-a-year post Wednesday night by the Santa Clarita Community College District Board of Trustees, district spokeswoman Sue Bozman said.
He will replace Burdett L. Shearer, who is retiring after serving as the college’s dean of student services since 1976.
A North Hills resident, Hisayasu has been acting dean of student services at Valley College since June, 1990. He also served as dean of extended opportunity programs and services at Los Angeles City College and Valley College.
Hisayasu has held positions as a counselor, supervisor, affirmative action officer and instructor within the Los Angeles Community College District and is a former principal at Upland Junior High School. He earned a doctorate in higher education at Nova University in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.
At College of the Canyons, Hisayasu will supervise admission and records, counseling, program advisement, financial aid, student activities, athletics, the career and transfer centers, opportunity programs and disabled student services. He will start his new job in early August.
