Questioning Teachers Union Priorities
I just learned that the excessive number of holidays and pupil-free days at my son’s school are not determined by school administrators but are set by collective bargaining with the teacher’s union. It is nice to know that the next time my work schedule is disrupted with child-care problems, the California Teacher’s Assn. is having another all-day union coffee session.
If the leadership of the CTA is more concerned about pay, benefits, tenure, and pupil-free days than it is about children, parents, and education, then increased funding for schools buys us very little.
