Preventing Substance Abuse Focus of Forum

Saddleback Valley Unified School District’s final parent forum of the school year will be Thursday at 6:45 p.m.
The free public event is open to all parents with children enrolled in the district. It will include district speakers and presentations on teenage substance abuse programs and how parents can keep students safe and drug-free.
Trudy Burrus, coordinator of Healthy Kids Healthy California, will talk about programs being implemented across the district for the prevention of drugs, alcohol and tobacco abuse.
Other speakers will include La Paz Intermediate School Principal Juanita Lampi, who will talk about the smoking cessation program that is in place at her school; and certified addiction counselor Tim Chapman, who will present a workshop on risky behaviors that can lead to problems with drugs and alcohol.
