A Los Alamitos school administrator has been named this year’s California Distinguished Principal, a national honor awarded to 50 school administrators annually, officials announced this week.
Jeanie Cash, principal of Richard Henry Lee Elementary, was selected by the Assn. of California School Administrators and represents California in this national competition organized by the U.S. Department of Education and National Assn. of Elementary School Principals.
“I consider this recognition to be the most exciting thing that has come my way in all the years that I have been an administrator,” said Cash, 48.
Before coming to Los Alamitos Unified School District last June, Cash was a teacher and principal in the Bellflower Unified School District for 19 years. In her 11 years as a principal, she has been lauded for establishing computer labs, health clinics, mentorship programs and gang-intervention and community-service projects at schools.
Cash and the other honorees will be recognized in Washington, D.C., in the fall.
