Cal State Northridge’s Alumni Assn. has awarded $1,000 to a recent graduate who will begin a White House internship Monday.
Eugene Eli Urcan III of Arcadia, who graduated in May with a bachelor’s degree in biology, will serve a seven-month internship in the Office of Advanced Correspondence.
Urcan will help plan, organize and implement President Clinton’s daily and long-range schedules.
He also will be required to participate in a community service program as part of the president’s national service initiative.
“We are very proud to support Gene as he represents his alma mater in the White House,” said G.D. “Gray” Mounger, director of alumni relations at the university.
“In turn, Gene has promised to be a CSUN alumni ambassador during his tenure in Washington. He exemplifies the outstanding quality of our alumni.”
The award will be used to help defray Urcan’s estimated $18,000 in living expenses while in Washington, Mounger said.
