Monica Kong, a student at Post Elementary School in Westminster, is the Garden Grove Unified School District’s elementary school spelling champ. The 12-year-old last week correctly spelled the deciding word, “reciprocal,” to become the leading speller among 10,700 fourth- through sixth-graders attending Garden Grove Unified schools. Monica, a sixth-grader, out-spelled 43 other contestants to win a plaque and a large perpetual trophy for display at her school.
